Authentic Aboriginal: A boost for Haisla Tourism

Kitamaat Village January 20, 2011, Haisla Tourism has been approved under the Authentic Aboriginal Program from ATBC last January 2011.  The Authentic Aboriginal is a Quality Standard that was designed to promote Aboriginal cultural experiences that reflect the interests, values and needs of the First Nations peoples, while elevating the Aboriginal cultural and BC’s tourism industry in international markets.  The AtBC Authenticity Brand is the first program of its kind in Canada. 

For Haisla Tourism the Authentic Aboriginal certification acknowledge the efforts deployed by Kitamaat Village Council to define a market niche within the Aboriginal Cultural Tourism sector.  The AtBC Authenticity Program will promote Haisla Tourism in its ongoing marketing, media and trades relations activities.  It’s a step further in the vision to be “one of the best Aboriginal tourist destination and a benchmark for environmental and a sustainable economic model of development throughout First Nation communities”.

Kitamaat Village Council is currently actively preparing its next season.  For the Council, the tourist endeavours represent a great opportunity to promote Haisla Tourism.  They vow to develop a flourishing aboriginal tourism sector within Haisla Traditional Territory for the community’s benefit.
